John Harrison

John Harrison (1693-1776) adalah anak tukang kayu. Sebelum berusia 20 tahun ia membuat jam bandul pertama yang dibuat dari kayu. Bersama adiknya, james, pada tahun 1720-an ia membuat jam menara untuk taman brocklesby, inggris, yang hingga kini masih berjalan baik. Meskipun jam H4-nya memenangkan hadiah sebesar 20.000 poundsterling pada tahun 1762, namun hadiah itu baru diberikan pada tahun 1773. Para juri sukar  mempercayai bahwa jam yang tampak sebagai arloji kantong biasa dapat begitu cermat.

Antoine Henri Becquerel

Antoine Henri Becquerel (1852-1908), adalah seorang fisikawan perancis yang meraih penghargaan nobel serta merupakan salah satu penemu radioaktivitas. Becquerel lahir di paris pada keluarga yang memang banyak menjadi ilmuwan. Pada tahun 1896, ketika meneliti tentang kandungan fosfor dalam garam uranium, Becquerel menemukan radioaktivitas secara tak sengaja. Pada tahun 1903 ia mendapatkan hadiah nobel pada bidang fisika bersama dengan pierrre dan marie curie.

Adolf Eugen Fick

Adolf Eugen Fick (1829-1901) adalah seorang ahli fisiologi yang terkenal karena penemuannya yaitu lensa kontak. Ia mendapatkan gelar doctor di Marbury dalam bidang medicine pada tahun 1851. Pada tahun 1887 ia merancang model lensa kontak untuk pertama kalinya, dibuat dari kaca coklat yang berat yang diujicobakan pada kelinci kemudian juga pada dirinya sendiri serta pada sekelompok sukarelawan. Idenya kemudian diperdalam oleh beberapa ilmuwan penemu beberapa tahun kemudian.
